October 21, 2009

While digging around in my email accounts for information about my Google Advertising Professional status, I discovered an email from Google loaded with twenty $100 Adwords promotional coupons.

These promotional codes were issued to replace the credits I had in My Client Center prior to Adwords switching to its new interface several months ago and are designed for acquiring new Google Advertising customers.

Thanks Google for these Google Adwords coupons.

I plan to use every one of them.

Bing Advertising Google Placement

October 20, 2009

I thought the following search result for Bing Advertising on Bing.com was ironic.

The first result on Bing.com for Bing Advertising isn’t for “Bing Advertising” instead its a sponsored site link for “24/7 1st page placement” from “Google-Placement.com”.

Clicking the Bing advertiser’s link takes searchers to a landing page where the phrases Bing or Bing Advertising are nowhere to be found.

Instead, the following copy ensues:

Global Market Exposure is a Google AdWords Qualified Company that proudly employs experienced Google AdWords Qualified Personnel. This means you work directly with our Google Professionals removing all the guess work and costly mistakes. With Global Market Exposure’s aggressive ad campaigns, revolving ad text, and Guaranteed First Page Google and Yahoo Placement, your business receives maximum exposure and the positive name (product) branding you’re looking for, turning impressions into clicks and clicks into conversions.

If this type of search result was what Microsoft had in mind when they re-branded and relaunched their Bing search product as a decision engine, Microsoft might ought to rethink their decision engine.

Gmail Labs has announced a new feature where Google Docs can be previewed from within Gmail.

Clicking on “Show Preview” reveals the contents of the Google Doc within the same window while Open in a new window opens another browser window.

Allowing Gmail users to view Google Docs within their Gmail account reduces the amount of keystrokes required to view email attachments.

Shouldn’t every television show like HBO’s Bored to Death have a Twitter account?

What better way to interact with a traditional media audience than in real time through a Twitter account?

Customize Publicized WordPress Tweet Messages

October 17, 2009

I have enabled all of my WordPress blogs to post directly from my dashboard directly to my Twitter account.

Each WordPress blog posted to Twitter begins with “posted to WP.com”.

Today I discovered a link within my WordPress publish box for editing publicized Twitter posts.

I am not sure whether the “posted to WP.com” Tweet introduction can be edited out or not but being able to add additional comments to Tweets should help make the theme and content of a each Tweeted WordPress blog post more clear to its audience.

October 16, 2009

comScore has released its internet traffic statistics for September 2009.

According to comScores’s Top 50 Ad Focus Ranking:

AOL Advertising led the September Ad Focus ranking reaching 91 percent of Americans online. Yahoo! Network ranked second, reaching 89 percent of the population, followed by Google Ad Network with an  86-percent reach.

If Social Media Were Effective, It Wouldn’t Be Free

October 15, 2009

Today’s thought for the day about the emergence of social media as a business platform:

If social media like Facebook and Twitter were effective at generating business for businesses large or small – “social media” wouldn’t be free.

To take a step further it wouldn’t have been labeled social media – it would be called simply “media”.

Thus “social media” is really code for don’t count on its use producing any revenue for your business.

There – I said it.

Ask Google About Their Q3 2009 Earnings

October 14, 2009

Do you have a question you would like to ask during Google’s Q3 ’09 Earnings Conference Call?

If so, Google has set up a Google Moderator form for submitting your questions.

At this time there are about 24 hours left to submit and or vote for your favorite questions.

I wonder if all public companies have similar mechanisms in place for polling executives and board members about their companies performance and activities?

If I recall correctly, Google Moderator is a self provisioned Audience polling product.

It seems to me every public company concerned with Corporate Governance and transparency issues could easily use Google Moderator to add an additional degree of interactivity with their audiences and accountability to their shareholders.

As I mentioned on my Search Marketing Communications blog, I received an invitation to Google Wave today – well actually yesterday.
