Google Adwords Promotional Coupons

September 20, 2009

Google Adwords Promotional Coupons are given to both Google Advertising Professionals Qualified Individuals and Qualified Companies.

In the old Google Adwords interface, I could easily locate my account’s credits and apply them to new Adwords accounts.

Google Adwords Promotional Coupons

However, I am unable to locate Adwords promotional coupons within my Pro Center now.

According to the recently updated Adwords Pro Help Center, Qualified Individuals and Qualified Companies were to have received 20 Promotional coupons valued @ US$100.00 via email with the launch of their new Pro Center in the summer of 2009.

Not only did I fail to receive the promotional coupons described above in the Adwords Help Center, the coupons I had in my account prior to Google’s migration to the new Adwords Interface have disappeared altogether.

Google Adwords Opportunities Best Practices

September 19, 2009

For Google Adwords advertisers who have exhausted all of their account’s “opportunities” suggestions, Google points advertisers to their new Adwords Best Practices resource center.

After exhausting an account’s opportunities Google Adwords provides the following message:

There are currently no ideas for your account. However, these automated ideas are refreshed every few weeks, so please check again soon.
Google Adwords best practices resource center for setting up successful advertising campaigns includes –
Organize your campaign by theme
In each campaign, create separate ad groups for each of your products, brands, or types of services you offer. Each ad group can then have a highly related set of keywords and ads that match the specific theme. By doing this, your ads can highlight exactly what a customer is searching for.
Choose your keywords carefully
Use specific keywords that directly relate to the theme of your ad group and landing page. Keywords that are too broad can lower your performance by generating many ad impressions but few clicks. One-word keywords are likely to be too generic, so try using two- or three-word phrases. Use the Keyword Tool to generate keyword ideas.
Include keywords in your ad text
Include your keywords in your ad text (especially the title) to show users that your ad relates to their search. If your ad shows when a user searches on a keyword in your ad group, the keyword will appear in bold in your ad text.
Use the right destination URL
Make sure that the destination URL (landing page) you use for each ad is the most relevant page within your website — ideally, a page dedicated to the specific product or service that’s highlighted in your ad.
Track your success
To make informed decisions about how to optimize your campaigns, review your campaign statistics. To measure your success, use conversion tracking to see which ads and keywords bring the most to your business.

The Power of Search Marketing Vs. All Other Marketing

September 18, 2009

Today while discussing online lead generation with a client, I summarized the search marketing lead generation process as follows:

Being contacted by prospects and evaluating their deals is a lot easier and more efficient than contacting prospects and having them choose whether or not to even hear your deal let alone evaluate it.

Of course the power of “word of mouth marketing” is equal to if not greater than the power of search marketing when it comes to communicating the merits of a company, product or service to prospects however word of mouth marketing is subject to the limits of analog communication in an era when the world’s preferred communications channel is increasingly digital.

Google Blog Alerts

September 17, 2009

A great technique for monitoring brand terms across the web is to set up a Google alert for one or more brand related keywords.

Google Alerts although not perfect are pretty efficient at retrieving new mentions of alert terms from News, Blog and other Web sources.

Google Blog Alerts

Google Blog Alerts

Frankly I had forgotten about this technique until after I saw one of my own blog posts in today’s Google Alerts for Google Adwords.

Receiving the above Google Alert reminded  me just how effective this technique is for listening to and hearing what’s being said on the web.

Blogger Create Link

Blogger Create Link

Additionally, I discovered Blogger accounts will generate a Google Alert when creating a link back to other Google Blogger accounts like the Official Google Blog post referenced in the alert above.

Google Blogger Alerts

Google Blogger Alerts

An alert is generated regardless of whether an entire post was composed or not.

Do Google Alerts generate supplemental traffic to blogs or websites?

How much traffic would have to be generated to make it worth the time and effort to create several links a day for your branded terms?

In which ways could innovative bloggers use this process to generate ongoing market awareness of their business and brands via Google Alerts?

Google Search and Adwords Results Mixup

September 16, 2009

I have noticed on several occassions after having searched for different local terms while logged into my iGoogle account, I have continued to get Adwords ads for my previous searches combined with my new search term’s results and ads.

Google Search Results Ads Mixup

Google Search Results Ads Mixup

In the example above, you can see how a search for Oklahoma Flowers includes both Google Adwords ads for Oklahoma Lawyers and Oklahoma flowers.

The only way I have found to clear the search cache appears to be to return to the Classic Google search box.

Google Crop Circles and Relevant Advertising

September 15, 2009

Google’s home page today is featuring a Google doodle of crop circles.

With the exception of last week’s link free 09-09-09 image, clicking on Google doodles takes searchers to more information about the featured doodle.

Enterprising advertisers and even opportunistic bloggers often try to package their sales message to capture the additional traffic generated by Google’s doodles.

Although both short sited and determental to an Adwords account’s quality, it doesn’t stop advertisers like the one featured below for a London based mail forwarding service from giving the increased search traffic for the “Crop Circles” keyword being promoted on Google today a try.

Probably unknown to Westone-Business.com, their ad won’t last the entire day.

Odds are this particular Google Adwords advertiser won’t know why either.

Google Advertising Professionals Exam Expiring Soon

September 12, 2009

I recently received the following notice from Google Adwords.

Although I don’t recall receiving previous notices by email from Google, they are welcomed because I don’t always check the messages in My Google Adwords Client Center.

Subject: Warning: Google Advertising Professionals Exam Expiring Soon

To: timcohn@gmail.com

Hello timcohn@gmail.com,

We are writing to let you know that one or more of the Google Advertising Professionals exams associated with your Company account is set to expire in the next 2 weeks.

Your Company account pages at the Google Advertising Professionals Program site have been updated to include this information. You can view the exam expiry dates associated with your Company account, as well as who took the exam and when, on the Google Advertising Professionals Company account home page.

If this exam expires, it may put your Company Qualification at risk; please have a Professional take the exam again as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Google Advertising Professionals Team

You have received this email because you are an Administrator of a Company account in the Google Advertising Professionals program. As such, we send you alerts and notifications when critical events take place that require your attention.

Google Voice to Text Translation

September 11, 2009

I have had my Google Voice account for several months now and really enjoy its web based user interface.

When I receive voice mails in my Google Voice account, notices are also automatically sent to my Gmail account.

Accompanying each Google Voice email is a voice to text translation of the message in addition to the actual message.

Voicemail messages can also be downloaded to a computer through the “More” menu within the Google Voice dashboard.

The Google Voice message files are exported as MP3 files which in turn can then be imported into applications like iTunes for playback.
