Find Locations For Flu Shots in Google Maps

November 30, 2009

Google recently launched a flu shot locator, which uses Google Maps to show searchers nearby locations offering seasonal and/or H1N1 flu vaccine.

Google users can find this information on a standalone page as well as in Google search results when searching for terms like [flu], [flu shot], [h1n1 shot] and [flu vaccine]. The flu onebox also includes tips on staying healthy from Flu.gov.

November 29, 2009

I have returned to the city from our lake house and this view after celebrating our fourth family Thanksgiving together at the lake.

Cyber Monday?

November 28, 2009

Cyber Monday is the first Monday after Thanksgiving when Americans return to work and begin their online shopping.

Black Friday vs. CyberMonday

Black Friday vs. CyberMonday

Cyber Monday is supposed to be the online equivalent of Black Friday.

If Google Trends last thirty days search traffic is an accurate indicator of demand, Cyber Monday 2009 might instead be called Red Cyber Monday.

WPP + Google Marketing Research Program

November 27, 2009

The Internet, World Wide Web and Google were borne out of research programs.

Recognizing the value basic research can produce, WPP and Google have launched a marketing research program in conjunction with major universities to fund academic research in the field of online marketing.

Having spent the last ten years researching the field of online marketing while also personally applying, testing, proving and disproving my findings, I was excited to learn what academia may have discovered.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn the WPP Google Marketing Research program winners appear to have begun fielding some of the general questions I have been contemplating over the last four years while fleshing out and writing my book – For Sale By Google.

After listening to the WPP + Google award winners’ responses, I am satisfied with the progress my own personal Google Marketing Research program ie., my upcoming book For Sale By Google has already achieved by comparison.

Finding Black Friday Deals In Google

November 24, 2009

The Friday after Thanksgiving is known by US Consumers as Black Friday.

Many shoppers begin searching for Black Friday deals seven to ten days before Black Friday actually arrives.

A quick way to create a list of up to the minute information on Black Friday deals is to search Google News and Google Blog search.

Google News Black Friday Deals

Google News provides links to recognized news media stories about Black Friday deals while Google Blog Search provides lists of blogs with information not often available from traditional news sources.

Google Analytics Intelligence Beta

November 23, 2009

Although apparently in Beta for several weeks, today was the first time I noticed the Intelligence Beta in my Google Analytics accounts.

The Google Analytics Intelligence Beta can be set up to deliver Daily, Weekly, Monthly automatic and custom website performance Alerts to webmasters.

Although I haven’t yet set up any custom alerts, the Automatic Alerts self report signicant changes in visitor activity for the time period through either metrics or dimension.

At a minimum, the Google Analytics Intelligence Beta can servce as a rudimentary back up Alarm for web site up time and performance by enabling email alerts when visitor traffic drops 25% below a normal daily level.

Google Advertising Fundamentals Exam

November 22, 2009

I discovered a new exam within my Google Adwords Pro Center today called the Google Advertising Fundamentals Exam.

The Google Advertising Fundamentals exam covers the basic aspects of AdWords and online advertising, including account management and the value of search advertising.

I am not sure what promise if any passing this particular Google Exam holds.

Not All Marketing Google Local Results Purged

November 21, 2009

In a post on Search Marketing Communications, I wrote about how many Marketing and Advertising related Google Local Business Center listings no longer appear in advertising and marketing related geo-modified search queries.

Today, of course I discovered an exception to what I thought was a new rule.

A search for “marketing firm” in Google produced a Google Two Pack list of local marketing firms.

Marketing Firm

The same query modified to include my “marketing firm + oklahoma city” produces the same Two Pack results although they now appear as the first and second results.

Marketing Firm Oklahoma City

Marketing Firm Oklahoma City

Yet the plural “marketing firms oklahoma city” yields a traditional search results page.

Although I was logged out of my Google account when I ran the queries, I am not convinced my browsers cookies didn’t influence the results Google delivered.
